Frequently Asked Questions

What is the story behind the Lightfeet brand?

In 2001, Australian podiatrist Dan Thomas was inspired to design and create a range of affordable orthotic footwear – for the specific purpose of offering cost-effective solutions to orthotic patients.

Initially these orthotics were only available to practitioners in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the US. However, in 2006 Dan expanded the company to develop a retail range – and the Lightfeet brand came to life.

Since those early days, Lightfeet has grown into a leading brand of orthopaedic footwear, sports performance socks, insoles and flip flops with arch support.

What is considered orthopedic and pediatric footwear?

Orthopaedic footwear, also known as orthotic footwear, is footwear designed to promote healthy mechanics and structure of the feet, ankles and legs. Paediatric orthotic footwear is a specialised type of orthopaedic footwear made for children.

Orthotic footwear can be designed to offer general support or to help correct specific foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis. Generally speaking, it is contoured to provide superior arch support, reduce joint stress and promote correct alignment of the foot.

Studies have shown that the use of orthopaedic footwear can reduce foot pain, improve blood flow, increase mobility and improve muscle efficiency. It also helps promote greater dynamic stability during activities.

Is Lightfeet’s range Australian made?

Our men’s and women’s orthotic footwear is designed by top Australian podiatrists, using specialist knowledge to ensure all of our products deliver on our promise of being comfortable and performance-enhancing, while assisting in foot pain prevention and relief.

Our podiatrists are committed to maintaining extremely high standards, and continue to develop Lightfeet UK as a leading orthopaedic footwear brand by producing the highest quality products, sustainably. Many of our products are made using recycled materials, so you can feel good about wearing them and do your part to protect the planet.

What’s the difference between podiatrist-designed footwear and regular footwear?
Podiatrist-designed footwear is specifically engineered to support the healthy function and mobility of the feet, ankles and legs. Conversely, regular footwear is often designed for form over function – so while it may look good, it can actually exacerbate or cause foot problems such as heel pain and plantar fasciitis.

Lightfeet UK’s range of podiatrist-designed footwear is crafted to deliver on stylish looks while giving you the added benefits of orthopaedic support and superior comfort.
